On Thanksgiving Day I received a beautiful email from my friend, writer and 6th grade teacher Bunny Dimmel.
“I am sharing the answers to this assignment with all of you to be thankful for your families, your loved ones, and the life you live.
The assignment: ‘What Are Your Beliefs in Life?’ After a lengthy discussion about what beliefs are, they were told to make a list, and not share them with anyone until they were done. The other teacher in the room had to leave when he looked over their shoulders and read what they wrote (his eyes filled with tears.)
So put down your forks, take time to truly be thankful for all you have, and read the thoughts of middle school 6th graders in Syracuse New York. ”
I BELIEVE…
- blacks and whites shouldn’t fight.
- if my mom and dad lived together, I would be a happier kid.
- my uncle got shot because somebody hated him.
- that every living thing should be loved.
- in God
- that parents love each other and should never get divorced.
- in myself
- two words can kill someone
- people die for stupid reasons
- if my mom could be successful, I could be too.
- that everyone should know their real parents.
- that if members of your family die, they will always love you.
- my mother is praying for me (* his mother gave him up at birth)
