“I Believe” … the thoughts of Syracuse 6th graders

On Thanksgiving Day I received a beautiful email from my friend, writer and 6th grade teacher Bunny Dimmel.
I am sharing the answers to this assignment with all of you to be thankful for your families, your loved ones, and the life you live.

The assignment:  ‘What Are Your Beliefs in Life?’ After a lengthy discussion about what beliefs are, they were told to make a list, and not share them with anyone until they were done.  The other teacher in the room had to leave when he looked over their shoulders and read what they wrote (his eyes filled with tears.)

So put down your forks, take time to truly be thankful for all you have, and read the thoughts of middle school 6th graders in Syracuse New York. ”

I BELIEVE…
  • blacks and whites shouldn’t fight.
  • if my mom and dad lived together, I would be a happier kid.
  • my uncle got shot because somebody hated him.
  • that every living thing should be loved.
  • in God
  • that parents love each other and should never get divorced.
  • in myself
  • two words can kill someone
  • people die for stupid reasons
  • if my mom could be successful, I could be too.
  • that everyone should know their real parents.
  • that if members of your family die, they will always love you.
  • my mother is praying for me (* his mother gave him up at birth)

WINE AND CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL

It was a BLAST!  Thousands attended and great to see so many listeners having fun.  The more wine tasting, the more fun.  And the chocolate fountain from P&C … wow!  If I was rich (like Tom Hanks or Rick Gary) I would have a chocolate fountain in my family room, right next to my chair, all the time.  Now that I think of it, I would have two fountains, one for dark chocoalate and one for milk chocolate, and occasionally I would also have a butter fountain for when I eat lobster. A great way to watch TV, yes?

SU Mens Basketball

It was touch and go and soooo close against Virginia but I am excited to say that the SU Mens’ Basketball team did win.  Woo Hoo!!!!!!!

I was in a very active section of people that really love the game and kept trying to get the wave started once we gained the lead. It was pretty funny. Over all a great time seemed to be had by all…. Colgate is Next….

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Its one week till Thanksgiving! Hope everyone has a safe and happy day!

“Anne of Green Gables”

I got so EXCITED when I found this article in the Neighbors section of the Thursdays paper. If you are familiar with “Anne of Green Gables” You may be interested in checking out the Onondaga County Public White Library on Butternut Street in Syracuse this Monday 11/17 at 3:30.  There will be a presentation on Prince Edward Island which will include attractions from “Anne of Green Gables” given by Joanne Trask.

I totally LOVE the books by Author L. M. Montgomery ”Anne of Green Gables”, “Anne of Avonlea”, “Anne of Windy Poplars” Etc…. This Year marks 100 years since the first book was published in 1908.  Recently Budge Wilson another Canadian author published a book called “Before Green Gables” A look into Anne Shirley’s Life the red headed, hot tempered orphan with a lively imagination and spirit for life before she came to P. E. Island.

I figured I would share it with you all and if you get a chance check it out…. of course if your not into reading you can always watch the videos.

Beca’s Letter and Make-A-Wish

A couple of weeks ago, I met Beca, the sweetest and smartest 11 year old, who is a Make-A Wish kid spokesperson. Yesterday she sent a letter to me.  Maybe we can help!

Hi Mike!

This is Beca Lloyd. I met you for Make A Wish I am a Wish kid. I had a
great time meeting you. I talked about Ms. Orangeman luncheon for Make A Wish. Thanks for the Sleeping Beauty dvd. I watched it over and over agian!

I am trying to tell people that I am a wish kid. I am trying to get
everyone I know (and don’t know) to write a letter to Santa.  Please write a letter
and put it in an addressed  and stamped envelope. You can give it to me
or drop it off at Macy’s!  Macy’s will give $1 for every letter they
receive to Make A Wish. I would like to help them.  Kids and adults can
do it! I love Christmas. I can help you give to Make A Wish
too! It only costs a stamp and an envelope. You can download a blank
letter from
http://www.macysbelieve.com/. I am also taking any
donations for our local Make A Wish chapter. Let me know if I can help
you to help Make A Wish.  It only costs a stamp!!!

People can drop their own letter off at Macy’s in Dewitt. I am going to Macy’s in Dewitt hopefully on  December 4th- a Thursday with some letters!

Anyone can afford a stamp at Christmas!

Thanks!

Beca
